Section 1: It Hits Different with Dr. Ali Reign → Power in Partnerships: Because Life's a Marathon, Not Just a Sprint
"If you want to travel fast, travel alone... If you want to travel far, travel together." - West African Proverb
You know, back in the day, I was all about sprinting through life. Like, "blink and you'll miss me" kind of fast. Set a two-year goal, smash it… wash, rinse and repeat. And I was clean and efficient with it, making it look easy… though I was drained and empty at times. As I got older, I realized that maybe, just maybe, there's more to life than sprinting. The adrenaline of each race propelled me forward to the next and still I never took time to celebrate the victory. Maybe it's about pacing yourself, about taking the time to enjoy the journey instead of just racing to each finish line.
Back then, I was all about those short races – two-year goals that I could tackle in a sprint. It was like I was on a never-ending track, always moving forward but never really taking the time for gratitude and acknowledging my accomplishments. It’s easier to run solo and be the solo drummer…. Setting your own pace and breaking your own records. And don't get me wrong, there's something empowering about that. But there's also something lonely about it too.
Then one day I had a revelation, and was stopped dead in my tracks: life isn't just about sprinting. It's really about finding your people, your posse, your pack – and running alongside them. There's a rhythm, a camaraderie, and a shared sense of both struggle and purpose that propels you forward. Plus, you get to enjoy the scenery along the way instead of just zooming past it like a blur.
I'll be honest, my early years were a blur. Always chasing the next achievement, the next degree, the next race. But eventually, I realized I was running myself ragged, starting and stopping just to catch my breath. I got that there’s a collective energy and recharge that comes from finding a new lyric and having a stronger flow.
That’s what SOUND: Mind x Music + Business 🎧 represents for me – a chance to make a difference and creat a new rhythm, beyond my individual success (as a solo artist 😏), as part of a better band that's changing lives through music. It's a perfect partnership – blending my passion for well-being and mental health with my love for music. Music has always been my sanctuary, my escape from the chaos of the world. From vibing out with my cousins as a pre-teen in upstate NY at the roller rink as the DJ spun the latest hip hop/ R&B, to finding solace in the rhythm of the drums and playing the dopest new break beat I heard while studying as a freshmen in college, music has been my constant companion through life's ups and downs. And after going back to the lab to get a social work degree in order to build a brighter future with young people I truly heard my calling. Working with youth I quickly saw how music can heal our hurt and propel us forward to be our best self.
And now, with partners like Belewa Muhammad, Deuene Hickman and Roshawnna Novellus (aka Zoe Hart) by my side, I'm learning while leveling up my passion for music and mental health. Belewa is a super producer who has pushed me to put my talents out in the world without pause because he can edit it and make it flow even better. And my brother from another mother Deuene has reminded me of my commitment to stand 💯 to lift up young people and power their purpose, skills and sharpen thier resilience with music and mindfulness. And my day to day who feels like my day one…Zoe… who holds my hand and heart… giving me a running mate in both personal and professional life… to push me to get that last workout in at the end of long day, or convinces me to monetize my momentum by starting the first item on my to do list when I want to hit snooze in the morning. She’s strong enough to be my sparring partner, yet gentle enough to be a soft place after a hard day and courageous enough to help me go places that we could not have gone alone.
For me it's not just about the work – it's about the family, the connections, and the shared vision for a better world. It's about knowing that no matter how tough the road may get and the noise from the haters that we’ll hear, I've got my tribe on the ride, holding each other down every step of the way.
So here's to partnerships – the kind that make life's marathon a little less daunting and a whole lot more fulfilling. Because when you have your people pouring into you, you’ll never be thirsty for positive energy to achieve your dreams. Powerful partnerships allow us to show up, show out and fight fearlessly for what matters most. And I’m grateful to have found my tribe, my band, my running mates… my gang gang. 🏃🏾♂️🥁🤜🏾🤛🏾

Section 2: Snatched with Dr. Zoe Hart → Beyond the Solo Journey
For much of my life, I played the lone wolf—believing I needed to prove everyone wrong by doing everything myself. Yes, I dazzled and outperformed, hoping acceptance would follow my achievements. Spoiler alert: It’s exhausting and actually doesn’t change anyone’s mind that is already made up. The relentless pursuit of approval is about as effective as a glass of water with a hole in the bottom.
Then came my epiphany. While I loved the complexities of managing products, strategies, launching businesses, and yes, even delighting in the nuances of tax law (my past life as a tax aficionado certainly helped), I realized that my greatest strength lay in collaboration, not solitude.
"No one can whistle a symphony. It takes an orchestra to play it." — Halford E. Luccock
Early attempts at partnerships sometimes felt like unbalanced group projects, where I ended up with more than my share of the workload. But that wasn't the kind of partnership I was after. I was searching for a team where everyone could stand tall, utilizing their talents and self-management skills.
That’s exactly what I found with SOUND: Mind X Music + Business. Ali, my life and business partner, is a strategic genius, seamlessly bridging the gap between creative and analytical minds. His emotional intelligence and vast network make him the ultimate connector. Everywhere we go, I feel the deep love and compassion that others feel while in his presence.
Then there’s Deuene, with over 14 years in the mental health sphere, who founded companies that provide everything from outpatient therapy to music therapy-based beat-making classes for children. His practical knowledge and support have been game-changers for me.
Let’s talk about Balewa, the Grammy-nominated producer who has worked with legends like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Angie Stone, and Christina Aguilera. His vision for a studio that blends music, podcasting, and videography to uplift the mental health of youth was compelling. When he invited me to join him, it was the epitome of the 'power of partnership' in action.
This team made it easy for me to shed my lone-wolf persona and truly embrace the strength of our collective. A few months in, we transformed a shared vision into a thriving reality. The partnership allowed me to exhale, trust, and tap into a synergy that I had never experienced before.
"Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships." – Michael Jordan
With the right people, a positive mindset, and a sprinkle of trust, there’s nothing you can’t achieve. So here’s to the magic of partnerships—may they be as fulfilling and empowering as finally cracking the code to a complex tax return!
Section 3: Smart Solutions for Self-Care: Cultivating Abundance with Science and Tech→ Unlocking Creativity and Wellness Through Music
Exploring the synergy between music and technology offers a fresh perspective on self-care, allowing individuals to engage in therapeutic practices that are both innovative and accessible. Through the creative application of music, platforms like SOUND: Mind X Music + Business exemplify how this art form can be a powerful tool for personal development and well-being.
At SOUND, the focus is on teaching participants how to blend music creation with life skills that promote mental wellness. This includes using music as a medium to express emotions, relieve stress, and connect with others on similar paths, all within a non-clinical, supportive environment. While SOUND emphasizes the practical aspects of music—such as songwriting and production—the underlying principle is about fostering a mindful approach to everyday challenges, demonstrating how music can enhance focus, emotional regulation, and personal expression (Thoma, et al., 2013).
Outside of SOUND, other initiatives have also tapped into the potential of music combined with technology for wellness. Apps like 'Endel' and 'Hummingbird' create personalized sound environments that aid concentration, relaxation, and sleep. These platforms use algorithms to tailor musical landscapes to the listener's current psychological and physiological state, providing a modern tool for anyone to implement music mindfulness into their daily routine (Ferreri, et al., 2019).
Another compelling example is the 'Harmonics' program, which integrates guided meditations with dynamic soundtracks. Users can select themes based on their current needs—such as calming anxiety or boosting energy—where the music is specifically composed to enhance the meditation experience (Gold, et al., 2020).
These examples underscore a broader trend: leveraging the intrinsic properties of music to enhance quality of life. Whether through creating, listening, or interacting with music technologically, individuals can find solace, strength, and stimulation. The blend of music and technology not only democratizes access to therapeutic practices but also opens up a spectrum of possibilities for customized self-care routines.
In conclusion, as we continue to explore innovative wellness strategies, the intersection of music and technology holds promising potential. It is a testament to the power of creative collaboration and technological advancement in developing tools that support a holistic approach to health and well-being. Each of these platforms, including SOUND, provides valuable insights into the myriad ways music can enrich our lives, serving as a reminder of its timeless role in healing and human connection.
