Windy City Vibes → From Trepidation to Intrepidity
"The renewal of the moments, the passing of the old. A new day, a new night; new gardens, new life, every breath brings about fresh insights; newness is richness, joyfulness." — Rumi
So, there I was, heading to Chicago—a city I’ve always associated with clarity and renewal. And let’s be honest, I was feeling more like a cautious shopper than a fearless warrior. But real talk, I was on a mission to turn that trepidation into intrepidity. It was our anniversary after all…Cue dramatic music.
Chicago greeted me with its classic mix: a cool breeze off Lake Michigan and a sunny day that screams balance. This city’s got it all—culture, climate, and that renaissance energy that just vibes with your soul. Remember, Malcolm started his spiritual journey here, Obama kicked off his political career, and Hazel M. Johnson (look her up, fam) pioneered environmental justice right here. Chicago’s reneissance energy hit me deep, reminding me that we can always start afresh. All it takes is choosing to embrace it, even if you’re feeling like a shook one (on the low).
Back to the matter at hand, our anniversary was the thing, and we’re celebrating a year of inspiring connection (and after all I’ve been through on the relationship front, I was like 🫣).
Meanwhile…Rumi's words kept echoing in my mind: every breath brings about fresh insights. And Hyde Park, I’m trying to tell ya—this place is like the VIP section of Chicago. Before Obama, I had no clue about this gem. It’s got heart, soul, and a sprinkle of that “I could conquer the world from here” energy. The moment we stepped out of our Uber, Hyde Park welcomed me like my long-lost dude (a pound and fist bump). And oh, the SOPHY hotel? They upgraded us to the suite where Michelle and Barack stayed at—talk about presidential treatment! The smiles, the nods, the heartfelt hellos—it was like the universe was giving me dap from afar.
This vibe stuck with me the entire weekend and beyond. It was a spring weekend so perfect it practically propelled me into action. It reminded me that even in the face of obstacles, negativity, and those pesky winter chills, we have the power to start anew. We just need to build walls 🧱 against the haters 🤬 and embrace the fresh vibes of spring.
As Barack Obama, the 44th POTUS, once said, "We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."
So here’s to reimagining our reality, creating a bountiful future, and embracing the newness in every breath we take. Let’s keep it fresh, keep it real, and most importantly, keep moving forward. 🍃😎👊🏾

Section 2: Snatched with Dr. Zoe Hart
Dr. Zoe Hart offers a heartfelt reflection on returning to Chicago after twelve years. Celebrating her anniversary with Dr. Ali, she experiences the vibrant, community-rich environment of Hyde Park. Contrasting her stay in Hyde Park with her previous experiences in the Gold Coast and the Loop, Dr. Hart encourages us to revisit our past choices and see if they still align with our current needs. Her story is a gentle reminder of the magic that can be found in familiar places and the importance of living in harmony with our surroundings.
Rediscovering Hyde Park
Returning to Chicago from a different time and place renewed my love for the city I moved to 12 years ago. I was 12 years older this time, celebrating my anniversary with Ali, and staying in Hyde Park: Chicago’s mecca of Black wealth and historical change. I have to admit, I typically book a hotel in the Gold Coast, and when I first moved, I rented an apartment in the Loop. So, being in Hyde Park for the first time for longer than three hours profoundly impacted my being and understanding.
Leaving the Sophy Hotel placed us directly on 53rd Street, a street with a significant economic footprint for the community. Walking down 53rd Street gave me a deep sense of the socioeconomic impact of the community. We had wing spots, soul food, Caribbean, and Chinese restaurants only a block away from Whole Foods and Target. I laughed as I thought these food sources were all we needed. On a deeper level, it made me reflect on how we design our perfect living environments. Should we live in a place like Hyde Park with easy public transportation, diverse food options, proximity to the water, and reasonable prices, or is another area a perfect fit?
One of the reasons I moved here was that the vibe and energy of the city felt in alignment with my preferences and needs for living. For you, the reader, I encourage you to revisit some of your past choices and decide if those choices still resonate with you. At any time, you can change or stay the same. While my move to Chicago ended up being very brief due to a business opportunity that relocated me, I still feel the magic I felt 12 years ago when I decided to take a leap and relocate there.

Implementation
Assess Your Environment: Encourage readers to evaluate their current living and working environments. Identify aspects that contribute positively or negatively to their well-being.
Create a Sanctuary: Designate a space in the home or office that feels rejuvenating. This could include elements of nature, comfortable seating, and personal mementos.
